Kohler Home Generators Installed by ARK

For more than a century, Kohler has been building engines, and Kohler home standby generators bring that industrial heritage to residential backup power. ARK Generators is an authorized Kohler Titan/Titanium residential dealer serving Conroe and the North Houston metro, and Kohler units are a popular choice for homeowners who want quieter operation, and industrial-grade construction. We install, service, and warranty every unit in the Kohler residential lineup.

The Kohler Home Standby Lineup

Kohler offers a full residential lineup from compact air-cooled units to substantial liquid-cooled systems. Popular models we install in the Houston area include:

  • Kohler 20RESC - 20kW, one of the quietest home standby units on the market, excellent for tight-lot installs and HOA-sensitive placements
  • Kohler 20RCA - 20kW with upgraded controller and features
  • Kohler 26RCA - 26kW for larger homes with heavier simultaneous load
  • Kohler 38RCL - 38kW liquid-cooled, for very large homes or light commercial
  • Kohler 48RCL -48kW liquid-cooled, for very large homes and light commercial applications
  • Kohler 60RCL -60kW liquid-cooled, the top of the residential and light commercial lineup

Commercial and Light-Industrial Kohler Generators

For commercial and light-industrial applications, ARK installs the full Kohler commercial range — from the KG80 through 150kW units — for office buildings, retail, medical, and industrial backup power needs. See our commercial installation page for the full scope of commercial projects we handle.

Why Homeowners Choose Kohler

Quieter Operation

Kohler units consistently test 2 to 4 dB quieter than comparable air-cooled competitors. For homes with close neighbors, tight setbacks, or bedrooms facing the install location, that makes a real difference.

Longer Warranty

Kohler offers factory warranty terms of 5, 7, or 10 years on qualifying residential models, with longer coverage available on select units and through current promotions. Ask us about the current Kohler warranty offers.

Industrial Engine Heritage

Kohler home generators use the same engine technology that powers Kohler's industrial, marine, and commercial applications. These are not designed-down residential engines - they are robust, purpose-built powerplants.

OnCue Plus Remote Monitoring

Kohler's remote monitoring system shows generator status, maintenance reminders, and fault alerts directly to your phone. Similar concept to Generac's MobileLink, engineered by Kohler.

The Wrong Size Warning — Why Sizing Matters

One of the most common mistakes homeowners make is buying a generator based on price instead of based on what their property actually needs. Picking the wrong-size unit cuts both ways, and both directions cause real problems.

Undersized Generators Get Overworked

If you install a unit that is too small for the load, the engine runs at near-maximum capacity every time it kicks on. That kind of constant strain shortens the lifespan of the unit, increases fuel consumption, and leads to premature failure exactly when you need it most. Properties with multiple buildings — outdoor kitchens, pool houses, detached garages, barns, workshops, or guest casitas — need careful load calculation, because the obvious electrical load is rarely the whole story.

Oversizing Adds Cost Without Adding Value

The opposite mistake is also a problem, just in a different way. A generator that is significantly larger than your actual load doesn't damage your electrical system — the panel, breakers, and wiring on each circuit still control how much current flows through them. But oversizing costs more upfront, burns more fuel per outage, and adds maintenance overhead you didn't need. Generators are designed to operate most efficiently at around 70-80% of their rated load, so a chronically under-loaded unit doesn't deliver its best fuel economy or efficiency. Right-sizing keeps cost, fuel use, and maintenance reasonable for the actual demand of your home.

How ARK Sizes a Kohler Install Correctly

Every Kohler install we do starts with an in-home consultation and a real load calculation, not a rough guess based on square footage. We walk the property, look at the panel, list out the loads you actually need to back up, and then size the Kohler unit to match. That is the only way to get a generator that runs comfortably for 15+ years instead of one that either burns out early or damages your home appliances due low voltage and bad frequency. See our generator planning and sizing page for more on how the process works.

ARK's Kohler Service and Warranty Support

Every Kohler install we perform includes warranty registration with the factory, and we provide in-warranty service and OEM parts replacement directly as an authorized dealer. If you have an existing Kohler generator that needs service, repair, or an extended warranty purchase, we can help with that too - even if ARK did not perform the original install. See our service and maintenance page.

Kohler Generator Financing Options

ARK Generators offers Kohler generator financing primarily through Service Finance Company. Service Finance works closely with Kohler dealers and gives qualified homeowners a convenient way to finance a complete Kohler standby generator installation.

Depending on credit approval and the programs available at the time of application, financing may include competitive interest rates, fixed monthly payments, extended repayment terms, promotional plans, and no-money-down options.

Eligible financing may cover the Kohler generator, automatic transfer switch, electrical work, fuel connection, permitting, installation, startup, and other approved project expenses.

Choosing financing should not mean compromising on generator size. ARK performs an in-home load calculation so your Kohler system is matched to the actual electrical demands of your property.

Kohler Generator FAQs

What Kohler models do you install?

We install the full Kohler residential lineup including the 20RESC and 20RCA (20kW — one of the quietest units on the market), 26RCL (26kW), and the larger liquid-cooled 38RCL, 48RCL and 60RCL units for the biggest homes and light commercial applications. We are an authorized Kohler residential dealer, so warranty registration and any warranty service goes through us directly.

What is an automatic standby generator?

An automatic standby generator is a permanently installed backup power system wired into your home's electrical panel through an automatic transfer switch. The moment the grid goes down, the generator detects the outage, starts itself within seconds, and powers your circuits without you lifting a finger. Both natural gas and propane fuel options are supported.

How is a standby generator different from a portable one?

A standby unit runs whether you are home or away, starts automatically, and is permanently wired through a transfer switch so there are no extension cords to manage. It is also dramatically safer than a portable generator: no risk of carbon monoxide poisoning, no fuel hauling, and lower operating cost over the life of the unit. Portables are great for camping. Standbys are what protect a home or business.

Air-cooled vs. liquid-cooled — which one do I need?

Air-cooled units use a fan to dissipate engine heat and are the right choice for most residential installs (10kW through 26kW typically). Liquid-cooled units use a radiator like a car engine and are built for longer continuous run times, larger loads, or commercial applications. For a typical Greater Houston Area home, air-cooled is plenty. For a large estate, multi-building property, or commercial site, liquid-cooled is the answer. We'll spec the right one during your in-home consultation.

Why is the aluminum enclosure important?

Aluminum enclosures resist rust and corrosion in a way steel cannot. That matters in Texas where humidity is constant, gulf air carries salt, and hurricane-driven rain saturates everything for days at a time. An aluminum-enclosed generator outlasts a steel-enclosed one in this climate by a meaningful margin, which is why we specify them on every install.

Will I need to maintain my generator?

Yes. A standby generator is an engine, and like every engine it needs oil changes, filter changes, battery checks, and periodic inspections. We recommend annual maintenance for residential units and twice-yearly for commercial. ARK offers maintenance packages that handle all of this on a schedule so you do not have to track it.

Can a standby generator overload?

Built-in overload protection trips the generator's internal circuit breaker if too much load is applied — so no, you cannot accidentally damage the unit by demanding too much from it. Where overload becomes a problem is when the unit is undersized for the home it is protecting, which is why we always do a real load calculation as part of every quote.
